While Valencia got back to winning ways in LaLiga with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Girona, coach Marcelino felt it was more that they had the run of the ball than that there was a noticeable improvement.
The Spanish coach was quick to stress that the levels of performance in both the matches against Girona and Villarreal were not too dissimilar, even though the club suffered defeat against Marcelino’s former club.
“The important Maglia Arsenal Karl thing is that we earned a fair, but close victory,” he explained in his post-match press conference.
“The match against Villarreal was similar; we have played two very important matches.
“We won one, yet we lost another.”
Goncalo Guedes’ performances this season have been outstanding, he has garnered an incredible reputation in LaLiga, so much so that Los Che are considering signing him on a permanent basis, although the coach refused to speculate on this matter.
“Guedes is a great player,” he intimated.
“He is a good teammate; he works hard and has a very good attitude.
“I can’t sign him, I have no information on this, nobody has told anything, obviously I’d like to sign him but it’s not my decision.”
One of the criticisms labelled at Marcelino has been a suggestion of being overly cautious when questioned by the press, however the former Villarreal coach fussball trikot feels it’s results which dictate his mood.
“When there are no positive results, my words can be misunderstood as being defensive,” he admitted.
“We haven’t lost a lot of matches this year; also we didn’t deserve to lose to either Eibar or Villarreal.
“I think the fans helped us a lot today, the reaction of the supporters is brilliant, this bond between the team and them increases our chances of winning.”
